Creative Direction and Design by Garrett Danz

Gary, Indiana based Indie / Punk band Lost Years recently contacted Always Empty Creative creative director Garrett Danz to design album artwork and promotional materials for their upcoming album “Traditions”. They are an independent band who have self-released three records and seem to be consistently growing as they go.

When the band approached us, they had a general theme they hoped to achieve but left the greater conceptual majority up to our creativity. They requested the artwork feature an americana style theme and symbolism relative to bad luck. Many of their provided visual references had a distressed or worn theme of which I put my own spin on through experiments with textures and stippling.

In addition to the album artwork, we created various online marketing materials for the band.

We went through a few different variations of fonts/center imagery but collectively agreed we’d reached our goals when we arrived at the final album cover. The artwork features a sinking ship inside of a coffin, split hourglasses, ship helms and a somber crow overlooking the scene. Inside the album you will find more imagery supporting the bad luck theme, such as an inverted horseshoe. We had a great time working on this project and hope Lost Years have a very a strong release for what we believe is a great album.
